If you enjoy films about the supernatural, then Chronicle has this in spades. The film opens with three friends who live in Seattle, Washington. Matt (Dane DeHaan) is a high-school senior; Andrew (Ashton Sanders) is his younger brother; and Steve (Michael B. Jordan) is an aspiring rapper who attends the same school as Matt and Andrew. One evening, while filming themselves playing pranks on unsuspecting passersby using telekinesis that they've developed, the three friends are unexpectedly zapped by an unknown power that leaves them with telekinetic abilities beyond their control. They soon learn that there are limits to their newfound abilities and even more exciting possibilities if they can figure out what to do with them. That night, Matt gets a call from his mother, who informs him that his father has been stricken with an illness. Matt rushes home only to discover that the news is not good: his father has a terminal brain tumor and doesn't have much time left. During a subsequent visit, Matt and his mother notice Andrew and Steve filming the house from outside the house, and after catching up with them, Matt tries to convince both of them that they need to go into hiding for their safety. But things become more complicated once a friend of Steve's is murdered by a rival gang, and Matt reluctantly continues to film with his friends as they investigate the tragic death. Along the way, they learn from Andrew's father that there are other victims who have been attacked by the same invisible force as them, and they realize that this mysterious force may be connected to another tragedy that left Andrew's brother dead. Matt and his friends must now confront their growing supernatural powers as well as those who want to exploit them for their own remuneration, especially after the mysterious assailant hunting the kids unleashes a torrent of violence which leaves them stunned and confused. The film was released in theaters on March 22, 2012. The film is based on a story initially conceived by Max Landis, who wrote the screenplay. Landis claims to have had the idea for "Chronicle" since he was 15 years old. He originally wanted to make the film in the "Blair Witch Project" style, using hand-held cameras and found footage shot by non-actors, but later decided to go with a traditional narrative instead. Landis tried to use a documentary format in order to give a more authentic feel to the film. He later claimed that he couldn't get any investor interested in the project because of its similarity to "Cloverfield". On October 19, 2008, it was announced that Josh Trank signed on to direct the film, with Max Landis writing the script. On January 20, 2009, "Variety" reported that Michael B. Jordan had joined the cast to play Andrew Detmer. On February 23, 2011, Dane DeHaan was cast as Matt Garetty. On March 19, 2011, Ashley Hinshaw joined the cast of the film to play Leah Hanwell and Alex Russell also landed a role. Filming took place in Los Angeles and Northern California in May 2010 and was completed in 63 days (six days over schedule). cfa1e77820
